9:00 A.M. Cybersecurity & Ethical Pitfalls for Litigators In this segment, we discuss the ethical pitfalls of practicing law in the computer age. We will discuss security vulnerabilities related to documents and emails, HIPAA, and e-discovery. We will also discuss the potential Metadata Nightmare. Legal documents can be full of metadata (hidden data) that can reveal information detrimental to your client or detrimental to your relationship with your client. A few easy precautions and protocols can keep you and your firm from disclosing hidden data which could lead to ethical violations and malpractice claims. Understand how it works and how you can advise your clients to protect themselves. We also discuss how to properly delete client data, assign passwords, and dispose of computer equipment while protecting client privacy.

10:15 A.M. A Picture Is Worth a Thousand Words – Making Your Case to the Jury with Legal Technology You will see high-tech courtroom presentations developed for the courtroom. We will show you how legal technology can be used to create a digital exhibit notebook and retrieve documents, images, animation, and deposition testimony (even video) for opening statement, witness examination, impeachment, and closing argument.
11:15 A.M. Using PowerPoint Effectively in Litigation Developing Electronic Presentations for the Courtroom. This session will provide a step-by-step approach on how to effectively present demonstrative evidence and the rules you need to follow when producing your exhibits for presentation to the court. From Opening Statement to Closing Argument learn the Dos and Don’ts of an electronic trial presentation.

1:15 P.M. E-Discovery & Trial Document Management E-Discovery and managing attorney work product can be intimidating and daunting, but it does not have to be. In this session we will discuss acquiring & preserving data, processing electronic files, managing work product, managing discovery production, and preparing it for trial.

2:30 P.M. A Litigator’s Guide to Using PDFs at Trial Regardless of the PDF program you use, in this session we will show you the appropriate uses of PDFs in litigation. We'll cover extremely important topics such as redaction, metadata removal and electronic document security, Bates numbering, splitting/combining PDFs, reducing file-size for electronic case filing, review/comment and PDF collaboration, adding signatures & stamps, routing PDFs for comments/feedback, and more.
3:30 P.M. Tips, Tricks & Tactics for Litigators We will close out the day with all the tips that we were not able to cover in the main presentation. In this session, we will cover practice tips and trial tactics designed specifically for litigators. In addition to more practical tips on improving your trial preparation and trial presentations, we will also explore trial transcript management, legal research, and improving client communication.
